Pandemic drill teaches practical lessons
A recent pandemic drill in Columbus, NE, confirmed that if you have a preplanned message to communicate to concerned citizens along with a database of community resources, you’ll be equipped with two important tools to inform and ensure residents in the event of a pandemic, according to The Columbus Telegram on June 20.
 
Iowa hospitals launch employee relief effort
The Iowa Hospital Association (IHA) has set up a relief fund to help the hundreds of hospital employees who suffered devastating losses from recent tornado and flood events. The association says it will disperse 100% of donations—which are tax deductible—to affected hospital staff.
 
Guidance posted on PPE for emergency responders
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has just posted guidance information on its Web site about the types of personal protective equipment (PPE) that emergency responders should employ when responding to terrorism incidents involving chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) hazards.
